Dog training?
I’m looking to put my dog in a training class, I emailed a local company if they have any current classes that my pup can join and this is what they replied:
“we offer group classes only after your dog completes a in home training course, we have a 4 week in home puppy kindergarten followed by a monthly group class for the rest of his life. The cost is $495, let me know if you would like to set up a free in home training evaluation so I can meet your dog, fill out a brief questionnaire and explain the training process.”
That sounds like a good plan but after the 4 weeks it’s once a month group? Does this sound like a good idea? Or should I just go with the traditional classes of meeting once a week for 6 weeks?
+my dog is a Cairn Terrier 15 weeks+
That’s another thing that was keeping me from signing up for this… I really want the classes for socialization and in-home doesn’t offer that!
No, go to your local animals shelter, mine has 9 weeks lessons with professional trainers for 50$, and my border collie is awesome

how to solve my puppy behavior, she is 14 weeks. at home she listen to me, but outside she act like crazy?
At home, my puppy listen to me and obey the rules. But when i take her to my friend’s place (my friend got a dog as well) she became really aggressive and not listen to me at all.
she running all over the place, jumping, scratching, and biting my friend’s dog even I know she is just playing. and she definitely not listening to anyone.
any advice?
She is just acting like a 14 week old puppy. Don’t worry, focus comes with age. What I might do is put her on a long lead. That way if she gets totally out of control, then I could easily remove her until she calmed down a bit.

Where do you get a dog trained for search and rescue?
We just received a Bloodhound as a gift after losing our last bloodhound almost a year ago. My husband has hopes of him being a search and rescue dog, especially after seeing one at a park soon after we lost our last one. I haven’t a clue as to how to find a place or someone to train him. Do the trainers have to be certified in anything? I live in Southwest Virginia and think maybe I will have to travel a lot for this. Or do police assist in training?
Where does one start?
Most S&R dogs/teams are contract employees for State or Local Law Enforcement. So how they get trained varies tremendously.
However, I’ve provided the URL for FEMA’s SAR selection and training course that will get you started. In the meantime, contact the local Sheriff’s Dept. and ask them who their SAR contacts are and then contact those folks. Finally, it’s a bit far from you but I know of a place in Stafford, Virginia where they do a variety of training. Most of it is bomb detection but they also do SAR contract work as well and I believe they do training too. It’s called Colonial K9’s and the URL is below the FEMA page. Even if they’re too far for you to do SAR work with, I’m sure they’d have some references for you in your part of the State.

Training aggressive dogs can be very frustrating, especially if you have no idea where to start. It is very important to make sure that your pet if properly training if it is an aggressive breed or has exhibited aggressive behavior in the past. You should teach you pet not to jump, nip, bite, threaten, or behave aggressively. This will save you from possible legal actions and a lot of worries. You don’t want to be the owner of the dog that mauls one of your neighbors children or bites the mailman. What can you do to stop this aggressive behavior.
First of all, you should teach your dog the “No” command. The dog should know and understand the meaning of this word. If your dog understands this command, he should stop whatever he is doing and give you his undivided attention. You should train this command consistently and often. If the dog is jumping, barking, chasing a cat, or anything that could seem aggressive, issue this command quickly and firmly. Once this command is learned, it will stop most negative behaviors.
Another command that could be used is “Leave it”. This command is taught in the same way as the “No” command. If the dog approaches an object and begins to show aggression, you should pull the leash tight and pronounce “Leave it”. If the dog follows the command he should be rewarded with a pat or “Good Boy”.
If you follow these simple instructions for teaching your dog commands, it should make your pet less aggressive and take away some of your worries. Remember to enjoy your pet.
