Why do so many dogs try to “hump” my male boxer at the dog beach?
My boxer can be very hyper, I don’t know if that is relevant, but it seems he is the most popular dog at the beach when it comes down to “humping”. Every time I have to get at least one or two dogs to leave him alone. What gives?
Riot, my dog, is nuetered. as all dogs should be.
Has he been castrated? Sometimes entire dogs can pick on castrated males because they don’t smell male and they are trying to dominate him. His hyperactivity may be winding the other males up too. He’s going to have to learn to defend himself – otherwise I’m not sure how to advise you other than pick a time when there are not many other dogs around down there?

How to train dog aggression towards cats? ?
I have trained my Bull Mastiff to cope with children but now I have a cat, and when the cat comes around I am forced to put him in another room. I know this is not solving the problem but he is a really big dog and is hard to control when he goes in this “mode”. After the cat is gone he is still in this “mode” for about ten minutes then back to normal. I cannot afford a trainer right now so what are some things that I can do at home to help with this matter. Anything helps

Im involved in a rescue and many of the dogs I’ve brought in dont like my cat…I usually keep them seperated.
But since you’ve made a commitment to both animals, you have to have patience and be willing to work. Put your dog on a sturdy leash. Let the cat out. Every time he is OVERLY excited toward the cat correct him and when he focuses on you give him a treat.
You dont want to yell or have negative reinforcements, cause that’ll only make the dog associate the cat with getting in trouble. He will want to eliminate the cat, since it is making problems. Alot of POSITIVE reinforcements. This can work out, dont give up on either animal.
Ive seen a dog that killed a cat be nose to nose with one. Patience!

Boxer Dog Origin
This breed originates from Germany and finds its early ancestor to be a mastiff type dog, the large Molossian Hound. Later, this dog evolved into what was called the Bullenbeisser. The Bullenbeiszer’s roots go back to Belgium and these ancestors were known as great hunting and working dogs.
Originally used to hunt wild boar and later used for working with cattle these dogs eventually diverged into different types, the smaller of which were called the Brabanter Bullenbeiszer. After mixing with a forerunner of the English Bulldog, the dog became what is known today as the Boxer breed around the mid to late 19th century. The Boxer dog origin and history becomes well documented at that point as dog breed clubs were formed in Germany in the 1860s.
Boxer Dog Breed History
What we know of as the Boxer today can be traced to the 1830s when a breeder crossbred the Brabanter Bullenbeiszer with the English Bulldog, but the Boxer dog breed history really begins in the 1860s as breeders began to establish and develop guidelines for the breed. In 1895 the Boxer Club was formally formed and further improvements were made to the standards of the Boxer dog breed.
Although initially the Boxer dog breed was generally white, by 1925 white was not accepted as a proper color for the breed. In fact, the color of choice now is fawn and brindle and any dog with more than a third of its coat white will be disqualified in AKC events.
This dog breed came to the United States around the beginning of the 1900s but did not become a popular dog breed until the 1940s. The breed was first registered by the American Kennel Club in 1904 and the first Boxer Champion was recognized in 1915. In 1949 a famous Boxer dog, Bang Away, won Best in Show at the Westminster and went on to win 121 more Best in Shows over the course of six years.
Bang Away became a famous dog, appearing on the front of magazine such as Life and Esquire. Due to the success of this one dog, the breed became very popular in the United States at the time and continues to be one of the 10 most popular breeds as determined by the American Kennel Club.

Don’t go with a small size dog. Since your boxer hasn’t grown up with it, you might have issues with the boxer being dominant and aggressive. I would go with another medium/large breed dog. You would probably be best matched with another high energy dog to keep your boxer entertained.

Where to Learn to Train Guard Dogs?
I’m interested in learning how to train guard dogs and dogs in generally. Is there a school somewhere that would teach this? If a person worked for the police force in this area, what wage could be expected?
Most Police Service Dog (PSD) trainers are private persons with their own import and training business. We buy dogs from Europe or good working dog breeders in the states, then we train them and sell them to interested Police Departments. To learn how to train dogs in such a fashion it’d probably be best to start with sport work like Schutzhund and find a mentor who understands real street work. You have to understand the difference between a Guard Dog and a PSD as well. A Guard Dog guards a fenced in area…he bites everyone but his handler and must be contained and kept away from innocent persons. A PSD is a dog who’s friendly with the public but taught to show aggression on command/bite on command an individual. If you decide you want to do this the best advice is this: Go to school and get a good high paying job! I’d say the average kennel costs about oh…around $100,000 considering the amount of land you’ll need to buy, building the indoor/outdoor runs, and of course building training facilities, training fields and such. That doesn’t include the hired help you’ll need, and the tens of thousands of dollars in equipment you’ll need from stainless steel bowls, bitesuits, bitesleeves, hidden sleeves, $200 muzzles, e-collars, no-bark collars, leashes and collars, agitation harnesses and collars, tracking harnesses, grooming supplies, grooming tables and a dog washtub, professional dog hair dryer, scratch pants, tons of tugs and rubber balls on ropes, not to mention food and the fact that the dogs you’ll be importing costs around $3,000 a piece or more (which doesn’t include shipping). It’s expensive to on your on kennel, you’re lucky to break even every year. Most people in this business make money by training private citizen’s dogs, maybe having a gooming shop, studding out some of their dogs, working a “regular job”, or are people who own another business they can work from home. It’s hard and you have to be good with numbers…going to school to be an accountant could definitely be a good start! But you could always work for a kennel, the wages won’t be great but if you’re a skilled trainer you might make half decent money. Don’t have any dreams of being rich though. More likely to get rich training people’s Pomeranians in their homes…
