A shock collar is an electronic dog collar that will send a shock to the dog when they do something wrong. Most of these types of collars come with different levels of shocks that can be administered, and should be set properly for the size of the dog. A shock will be sent from the transmitter to the receiver of the dog’s collar. You control the transmitter to send signals when your dog does something that you do not approve.
It’s a simple idea — any time the dog does something wrong, you send a shock to the dog. They might not figure it out the first time, but if they do the same thing again and get shocked, they might start to notice a pattern. If they do it three or four more times and receive a shock every time they have done that same behavior, then soon they will think that doing that behavior causes them to get shocked. Thus, they will stop doing that behavior.
An electronic shock collar can be used to stop many different kinds of misbehaviors in dogs, such as jumping up on furniture or visitors, digging holes in the backyard, chewing on things and so on.
It is important that you have your transmitter on you at all times so you can administer shocks immediately if the dog misbehaves. It is important that you start the shock at the lowest setting possible so you do not send too much electricity to the collar. If your dog is not responsive to the low shock then increase the settings on the collar.
If the dog starts to panic or becomes excessively loud after being shocked, then the chances are you have the shock level up to much. In this case, make sure to decrease it. You want to discipline your pet, not cause it to go into a panic.
It is important that the dog training shock collar be used to modify misbehavior and not aggressive behavior. Biting and attacking others is something that you will not correct with a simple electronic collar. In this case, a professional trainer may be needed.

dog training?
i am planning on getting a dog soon. this will not be my first dog, but it will be my dog that requires training. any adive on how to house break and any other training would be really helpful. thanks.
The individual who thinks it is a good idea to shove a dogs nose in his waste is WRONG. Although this may work over time it is NOT the most effective way to house train a dog. Also, terriers are not going to take longer to train. That is a general assumption that is in no way true!
I have 4 mastiffs and 2 terriers. I am also an active dog trainer. I have worked with several breeds of dogs that all train on different levels. As it may be assumed that bully breeds are harder to train, its just not true. All dogs have brains and need training to their specific situations. It is that simple.
Quick thought on house training:
Dogs that are not house broken should not be on teir own in the home. They should not roam free and that is the owners responsibility. Your dog should be a general down stay position where he or she cant use the bathroom. Tell me the last time you saw a dog laying down use the bathroom. Learn their/ create their outside bathroom schedule. Know the basic times and when that time is approaching you make sure you have that dog at your side! Positive reinforcement is a great thing after they handle their business outside. A simple bathroom command should be enforced(hurry up), after they make you praise and return to the home.
NEVER PUT THEIR FACE IN IT AND SCREAM AT THEM!

There comes a time when your dog will no longer be as young as they used to be and more care and attention might be needed. Everyone and every living thing gets old at some point and there’s nothing anyone can do.
There are however, things that can help dramatically in keeping your dog young and healthy and to set them up for a much better and happier aging. Don’t wait till your dog is old before thinking of the care he will need, you need to constantly look after your dog’s health to stop any unnecessary suffering later on.
The main things that affect your dog’s later life are the diet he/she is on and the exercise they get, along with other less important needs such as grooming and others, feeding and exercise are the main factors in determining your dog’s health later in life.
So what can happen to your dog in later life I hear you ask? Well there are plenty of illnesses and situations that may occur with age because of things not working as well as they used to much the same as human illnesses. Middle age for a dog is around the seven years mark although it depends on dog size and this is when the dog’s body will gradually start to deteriate.
One of the most common of old age symptoms for dogs is hearing and sight deteriation, this can cause the dog to be much more frightened and feeling more vulnerable than they used to. Old Dog personalities may begin to change in affect to this making some more friendly and other more grumpy and snappy. Other old age side effects include putting on weight, weaker muscles and bones, memory loss and being less able to fight off infections and diseases.
Weight gain is a big issue in old dogs and needs to be monitored and acted upon often to make sure your dog doesn’t get unwanted problems through obesity.
In general, if you pet is getting old and you can see he/she is feeling the pain, then take them to the local vet to get advice on any questions you have and have them checked over by an expert.

Why won’t Republicans denounce dog fighting?
Do they like it? Only a Dem senator has denounced it.
The strong words from Sen. Robert Byrd, D-WV, widely known for his devotion to animals, come as dogfighting controversy swirls around the Atlanta Falcons star quarterback. Vick and three others were indicted earlier this week on felony charges of competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting, and conducting the enterprise across state lines.
Byrd called the activities described in the Vick case “sadistic” and “barbaric.” At one point, Byrd began shouting and pumping his fist.
“Barbaric!,” he yelled. “Let that word resounding from hill to hill, and from mountain to mountain, and valley to valley across the broad land. Barbaric! Barbaric! May God help those poor souls who’d be so cruel. Barbaric! Hear me! Barbaric!”
